Chronic active EBV infection mimicking periodic fever syndromes: a new challenge for the paediatrician

چکیده
Introduction Chronic active EBV (CAEBV) infection is a rare condition associated to a chronic activation of Epstein Barr virus and therefore to a chronic and potentially lifethreating lymphoproliferation. Few cases of this condition have been described in the Asian population (with a prevalence of expansion of T and NK lymphocytes) and in North America (with a prevalence of expansion of B cells). This condition presents a poor prognosis: most of the patients not treated with bone marrow transplantation die for lymphatic malignancies.

CD70 Deficiency due to a Novel Mutation in a Patient with Severe Chronic EBV Infection Presenting As a Periodic Fever
Primary immunodeficiencies with selective susceptibility to EBV infection are rare conditions associated with severe lymphoproliferation. We followed a patient, son of consanguineous parents, referred to our center for recurrent periodic episodes of fever associated with tonsillitis and adenitis started after an infectious mononucleosis and responsive to oral steroid. An initial diagnosis of pe...

Familial Mediterranean fever, an autosomal recessive disorder, is a member of the periodic fever syndromes, and considered to be the most common cause of recurrent febrile episodes in children. It is important to understand the disorder as familial Mediterranean fever falls on a spectrum of various presentations; the recurrent episodes of familial Mediterranean fever may be so severe that the q...

A 15-year-old boy with a 13-year history of periodic fevers, lymphadenopathy, and leukocytosis showed virological, serological, immunohistologic, and molecular evidence of persistent, active, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Acyclovir and several other agents failed to alter his clinical course. Comprehensive immunological studies could not identify a defined immune deficiency syndrome to ex...

Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus (CAEBV) infection syndrome is a heterogeneous EBV-related disorder characterized by chronic fatigue, fever, lymphadenopathy, and/or hepatosplenomegaly, associated with abnormal patterns of antibody to EBV. CAEBV can range from disabling mild/moderate forms to rapidly lethal disorders. Even patients with mild/moderate disease frequently suffer adverse effects fr...
متن کامل[Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection].
The ubiquitous Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which establishes latency after primary infection, does not cause any symptomatic diseases as long as cellular immunity is intact. In apparently immunocompetent individuals, a chronic infection can develop, and this has been called as chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV). CAEBV is characterized by chronic or recurrent infectious mononucleosis-like sympto...
